Shock / Deny

The young Belgian doom/black metal band Deuil made quite an impression with their 2013 debut album Acceptance/Rebuild. 2015 brought us Shock/Deny: Deuil‘s further explorations of the stages of loss and grief. For two long and relentless tracks, they probe within the psyche of mourning. The tone is bleak and dark, the music harsh and moody. Their experimental doom – even drone – approach to black metal grinds and grates the soul. The massive sound of Deuil gets under the skin and pulls in the listener with brute force. The album might only take half an hour, but it will surely leave you gasping for air.
